ABOUT US
Kilombero organization for community development (KOCD) is an independent registered non-government and nonprofit civil society organization based in kilombero District. In 2005 a group of educated, dynamic and like-minded youth working in the development sector, got together to establish an organization, for addressing the most urgent and pressing needs of the people of kilombero District . True to this spirit the association was named kilombero group for community development(kgcd) and was officially registered and given registration number 12NGO/1853 dated 14, December 2006. Later on there was a need to expand the geographical coverage of scope of work with a view to provide service to Tanzania mainland hence acquired a new certificate with an upgraded name Kilombero organization for community Development(KOCD) on 6th march ,2016 with a new Registration number 00NGO/08491 Consequently, the organization’s focus was not kept limited either in terms of geography or sector. Whilst operating in different districts of the nation, KOCD has been carrying a range of interventions in the areas of education, health & hygiene, youth & women empowerment, emergency response & preparedness, good governance, human rights, environment, agriculture etc. The type of activities undertaken by the organization range from capacity building to service delivery, with focus remaining on the deprived and marginalized segments of the society. Although a somewhat new entry in the development arena, – owing to the linkages of its members with national & international funding agencies – enjoys a diverse portfolio, characterized by partnership with organizations like FCS,JUKWAA LA KATIBA ,UNGO, PANITA, LGAs, Ministry of Health community development gender ,elderly and children,TWAWEZA , PLAN International ,MJUMITA, & AFRICARE TANZANIA.

OUR STRATEGY
A sustainable strategy is devised to achieve the maximum, a need based and right based approach initiated ascertains the problem with fully community involvement and mobilizing all indigenous and local resources. The program goals are materialized with a helping hand from members’ donor agencies and Philanthropists
OUR APPROACH
During the process of social mobilization, KOCD adopted a participatory, self-help, self-sustainable approach through community involvement and formation of volunteer groups in remote rural areas.
SCOPE OF WORK
KOCD has strong linkages with major NGOs and funding agencies working in Tanzania. KOCD enjoys a rich experience of working in the diverse socio-cultural environment of Tanzania and an extensive networking with the District & Provincial Governments, civil society institutions, and media. In addition to the above, KOCD concentrates its work in Morogoro Region but has now extended her operations (branches) at Babati – Manyara, and Mpwapwa –Dodoma respectively.
THEMATIC AREAS
OUR SERVICES
Health, HIV Prevention and WASH
Education
This programme aims at conducting awareness campaign on HIV and early pregnancies; Children confidence building programs like sanitary education and provision of materials; and provision and mobilization of study aid materials to underprivileged students
Agriculture
Under this theme KOCD delivers capacity building on best practices to the communities in : horticulture, Small livestock keeping, beekeeping, post harvest loss prevention management, and General Agriculture
Advocacy
Under this programme, KOCD addresses cross cutting issues that arise from the above core programs messages are generated through Community Support Groups eg Farmers, Students etc.
Youth Empowerment
Provision of sustainable and profitable means of livelihoods, training of Income Generating Activities and financial management, support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs’) to attain vocational skills and provision of basic start up tool kits to beneficiaries in the community
Child Protection
Under this theme KOCD focuses on holistic development of children its protection and rights, following interventions are planned over the time: Child rights education and protection awareness at different levels and different stakeholders; Development of safe learning places for children at schools, hospitals, and community centers; Children confidence building programs, walks, sessions, campaigns, and trainings; and Development of children groups and developing leadership skills in them.
Emergency Response and Preparedness
Under this theme KOCD responds positively to disasters that occur in the community such as flooding, landslide, hunger to find relief.
Women Empowerment
Women Empowerment aims at promotion women to take lead role in democratic norms and culture in the operational area. Two types of activities are undertaken in this theme: one aim at building capacities of women and communities and their groups to engage effectively with government and other stakeholders for getting their constitutional and legal social, economic rights, the other aims at working directly with state institutions for creating an environment that can guarantee the rights of women citizens. It also focuses on enhancing women income generation skills through capacity building and micro credit.
Environment
This programme aim at: Training of Youth Support Groups, formation of Environmental Protection and Conservation Clubs in schools, established a tree nursery which acts as a demonstration site and supplies tree seedlings to the community; Facilitate alternative activities for income generation to the community living adjacent to forest reserves such as apiculture ,Horticulture ,VSL education; and Education on climate change adaptation to the community
